Safari in Kenya: lodges and craft stores

The lodges were absolutely beautiful because of the vibrant African colors and patterns. The gardens and pool areas were relaxing and rich with color and variety.

The craft stores where we got dropped off once in a while by the enterprising driver, had some great woodwork, batiks, pottery, bead crafts, oil paintings, jewelry, clothes, etc. We had to negotiate the prices down every time. After a short learning curve we got pretty good at it (starting out at $300.00, ending up with $45.00... with hands full of great stuff).

The picture on the bottom is from a 'bush baby', little critters living under the straw roof of the lodge. They got fed once in a while for the pleasure of the tourists, a good example of turning a problem into an attraction. It was the same with the coyotes hanging around the lodges. Unfortunately, it was too dark to get pictures from them.

  1. Wonderful pix! Are you putting a great flick together? Also interested in the crafts...especially textiles that demonstrate unique color and pattern application. Send pix if you have them. Regards from Ken.
