Our first excursion out of Sana'a. We had a guide and a driver. First they showed us the Wadi (it's a space between the mountains) from high up, and they pointed out where we were going: the Rock Palace. The imam's retreat for himself, his family and his guests, built in the 16th century on a huge rock.
Then we drove to it and climbed all the way up. On the top level was the imam's room, very sunny and light, with views all around. There were balconies, rooms, spaces, narrow hallways, very fascinating. Rooms for the men, rooms for the women, rooms for the summer (on the sunny side), rooms for the winter... A very unique water system that moved water around in the whole building, coming from a deep well. Amazing place.
