A trip to Bait Baws

Bait Baws was a Jewish community built around 1500 years ago, overlooking Sana'a. Yemen is the land of 'Shem', one of the sons of Abraham (Semites). Sana'a claims to be the oldest city in the world. They also say that the Jews originated in Yemen.

The picture top right shows Bait Baws looking up from the city. The Jews living there controlled a lot of trading in the city.

Below is a few more pictures from this fortified little village. There was a wall built all around it, but it was protected without that too. There was a huge well inside the walls, of which I could not see the bottom. Scary, just a big hole in the ground, right beside the little pathway leading into the village.

Our guide told us that it is not protected now, it's all falling apart and homeless people are living in it now.
